A full model change in August 1997 produced the second-generation Toyota Aristo. Like its innovatively designed predecessor, it features distinctive styling that sets it apart from other 4-door sedans.
The sporty interior, more original than its predecessor’s, utilizes designs that border on remarkable for this type of model while also demonstrating the refinement for which Toyota luxury cars are known.
The 3.0-liter, dual overhead cam, inline 6-cylinder model 2JZ-GE engine, available in naturally-aspirated and twin turbo versions, is the same as previous models’ but with updated specs, featuring the VVT-i variable valve timing system. The Toyota Aristo V300 twin turbo generates 276hp and 333 lb-ft of torque, the S300 naturally-aspirated engine 227hp and 225 lb-ft of torque.
The electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission is equipped with a system that permits manual transmission-like shifting. After moving the selector to the M setting, the driver can operate the shift lever on the steering column to change gears in the same manner as a manual transmission.
The chassis that this Aristo inherits features a four-wheel double-wishbone suspension, traction control, ABS, and VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), all combining to ensure excellent stability for a powerful front engine/rear drive vehicle.
