With the Altezza 280T, Tom’s strove to transform Toyota’s Altezza front engine, rear-drive sedan into a true high-performance sports sedan. Exterior changes include a different front grille, a subdued but powerful front chin spoiler, side skirts, rear wing, and a rear under-spoiler with a ground effects look.
Tom’s Chrono 18-inch alloy wheels are used. The engine is the 2.0-liter model 3S-GE also found in the Toyota Altezza RS200, but with an IHI turbocharger and intercooler. The boost raises maximum output and torque from the ordinary engine’s 207hp and 159 Ib-ft to over 276 hp and 217 Ib-ft of torque.
The Toyota Altezza 280T offers the same transmission options as the standard model, a 6-speed manual and 5-speed automatic. Many competition-grade suspension pieces, including control arms and strut tower braces, are available as options.
This, along with a standard-equipment Tom’s suspension kit, makes for an exceptionally rigid chassis that far outshines the standard model. This combination of engine and chassis create a much sportier car than the standard Altezza.
