The Subaru Impreza 22B STi is a showroom version of the highly successful Impreza World Rally Car, whose overall image the 22B STi faithfully recreates. This special, limited-edition car was released in 1998, and only 400 units were produced.
This car’s 2 -door coupe body sports the same protruding blistered fenders as the WRC competition model, and is over three inches wider than the standard model. Mounted to the trunk is the same WRC rear deck spoiler with an oversized, adjustable wing.
The engine features EJ22 closed deck cylinders combined with EJ20 DOHC heads, special forged pistons, and the same turbocharger used in the STi version, for power specs of 276hp and 266 Ib-ft of torque. The larger displacement (2.2-liters) assures excellent, torquey performance in every speed range.
To accommodate the higher power, the clutch uses a twin-plate ceramic disc and the transmission gears have shorter pinions. The suspension uses a combination of Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs. The brakes are the same as the Version IV: 4 piston, 16-inch disc front brakes and twin piston, 15-inch rear brakes.
Pirelli P-Zero tires (235/45ZR17) are mounted on 8.5JJ BBS forged aluminum wheels. The hub and wheel offset have been changed to accommodate the wider, stability-enhancing track.
