The Nissan Silvia S14 was launched in 1993 and in 1996 was given a makeover which swept aside the staid styling for a more aggressive feel. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder DOHC NA SR20DE engine, and its turbo version, the SR20DET.
The J’s and Q’s come equipped with NA engines, delivering 157hp and 138.8 lb-ft of torque while the turbo version gives 216hp and 202.5 lb-ft to the top-of-the-range Silvia K’s. For drive quality and performance, the K’s is the best choice, and while the NA Q’s is well-balanced, it seems to lack power for a car of its class.
In terms of performance, both turbo and non-turbo models compare well with their rivals. Though their sportiness is patchy because the suspension and chassis are not quite good enough. This can be fixed with modifications. Nonetheless, the Silvia S14 is a great car and remains popular amongst car enthusiasts and tuners.
