The Mitsubishi Mirage (also known as Mitsubishi Colt) is Mitsubishi’s flagship international car and is now into its fourth generation after a full model change in 1991. The Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg R was classified as a sports model in 1993. Underneath the hood is a sporty 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder DOHC G92 engine with VVT, packing more than 100hp per liter at 172hp.
This MIVEC engine obviously boasts the best figures in the 1.6-liter class. In addition, to the 172hp 122.9 lb-ft power unit, its light weight of 2,293 lb also gives the car all the capabilities to defeat cars from the next class up.
In terms of handling and stability, it is a little rough compared to today’s FF cars, and accelerating out of a corner does result in severe understeering, but it is fun to try and use one’s skill to control it.
