The Mitsubishi FTO appeared in 1994 as a stablemate of the Mitsubishi GTO (3000GT). The body is 3-door and has been given an extremely glamorous design. The front fender has a particularly severe modulation, its convoluted swelling extending into the hood.
It is available with three engines, starting with a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder OHC 4G93 producing 123hp and 119.3 lb-ft. The other engines are a 2.0-liter V6 DOHC 6A12 giving 167hp and 137.4 lb-ft, and a 2.0-liter V6 DOHC 6A12 offering 197hp and 147.5 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission is either a 5-speed manual or INVECS-2, FTO’s first automatic transmission with sports mode. The top-grade model FTO GPX, which is powered by a 197hp MIVEC engine, has a smooth and powerful engine feeling.
Combined with a suitable firmed-up suspension, it gives a thrilling ride. After minor changes, a model FTO GP Version R, fitted with aerodynamic parts was added to the lineup.
